Montgomery Cougar Football Fundraiser Powers Program’s Growth On and Off the Field

Nicholas Mistretta

The Montgomery High School football program has a lot to celebrate this fall—and even more to look forward to. On the heels of a commanding 36–7 victory over Watchung Hills, the Cougars (4–1) are not only closing in on a Liberty Silver Division title but also strengthening their foundation for the future through a community-driven fundraiser.

The Montgomery Cougars Football Club, a registered nonprofit organization, has launched an initiative to raise funds that will directly invest in players’ physical and mental development. The goal, organizers say, is to ensure that the team’s progress extends well beyond Friday night lights.

Football is about more than wins and losses. It’s about building strong student-athletes, fostering leadership, and preparing our players for success on and off the field. This fundraiser is key to that mission.

Planned investments include team meals and nutrition programs, travel bags, new warmup gear, and leadership development opportunities. Each donation will go directly toward enhancing the student-athlete experience and helping players reach their full potential.

The timing couldn’t be better. After a 1–9 season last year, Montgomery has roared back with one of the state’s most impressive turnarounds. Ranked No. 15 last week, the Cougars are now within striking distance of a division championship—an achievement that seemed unlikely just a season ago. With a matchup against Linden (1–4) on the horizon, the team can clinch the Liberty Silver Division crown if Rahway falls to Watchung Hills in Week 6 or with a head-to-head victory over Rahway in Week 8.

The fundraiser highlights the deep bond between the program and the Montgomery community. Parents, alumni, and local supporters have all played a role in the Cougars’ resurgence, providing both financial backing and unshakable encouragement from the stands.

“This program is about pride—pride in our school, our players, and our town,” the club added. “With the community behind us, the possibilities are endless.”

As Montgomery’s season builds toward a potential championship run, the fundraiser ensures that Cougar pride will continue to grow stronger—now and for years to come.
