Montgomery Township Committee to Address Budget Cap, Infrastructure and Community Initiatives at March 31 Meeting

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Montgomery Township Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 31, with an agenda that includes a community-focused presentation, routine financial actions, and a key ordinance that could impact the Township’s 2026 budget planning.

The meeting will open with a presentation from the Health Department on the results of the Township’s Age-Friendly Survey, offering insight into how Montgomery can better support its aging population.

The Committee will also issue a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day on April 24, 2026, reaffirming the Township’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, tree preservation, and sustainability efforts.

Several routine items are expected to be approved under the consent agenda, including the redemption of three tax sale certificates totaling more than $13,000. The Committee will also vote to approve meeting minutes from March 19 and authorize payment of Township bills following review by financial officials.

The most significant item on the agenda is the final adoption of an ordinance allowing the Township to exceed the state’s standard municipal budget cap. The ordinance would permit a cap increase to 3.5 percent for the 2026 budget and establish a cap bank for future financial flexibility. While the measure does not finalize the budget, it enables the Township to exceed the standard cap if necessary.

In addition, the Committee will consider a one-year contract extension, not to exceed $75,000, for sewer excavation and repair services. Officials will also review an agreement related to the proposed Cherry Valley Road Connector partial expansion project, a measure tied to local infrastructure improvements.

Residents will have the opportunity to address the Committee during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Additional items include a request to support the “Tie the Town Pink” initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, as well as an application for an outdoor assembly permit for a May event at Kasia Market.

Looking ahead, Township officials are preparing for several upcoming meetings focused on the 2026 municipal budget, including its introduction in April and anticipated adoption in May.

The meeting is expected to conclude with a closed executive session to discuss matters involving Township property, contract negotiations, and ongoing affordable housing litigation.
