MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, NJ — Montgomery High School athletics saw a mix of results on Tuesday, as the boys tennis team delivered a commanding season-opening victory while the softball team was shut out in a loss to Warren Hills.
Softball: Warren Hills 5, Montgomery 0
The Montgomery softball team was held scoreless in a 5-0 loss to Warren Hills, as the Cougars were limited to just four hits against a strong pitching performance.
Montgomery (1-1) struggled to generate offense throughout the game, collecting singles from Grace Gandolfo, Isabella Malek, Ryane Riddell, and Matilda Suh, who added the team’s lone extra-base hit with a double.
Warren Hills pitcher Tianna Rauf was in control throughout, striking out nine and allowing just one walk over seven innings to secure the shutout.
In the circle for Montgomery, Matilda Suh pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and five runs—three earned—while walking one and striking out one. Despite the loss, the Cougars’ defense limited additional damage, committing two errors.
Warren Hills (1-0) built its lead early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding single runs in each of the next three innings to take control.
Boys Tennis: Montgomery 4, Woodbridge 1
The Montgomery boys tennis team opened its season in dominant fashion, defeating Woodbridge 4-1 with a sweep of four matches in straight sets.
After dropping first singles, the Cougars responded emphatically, winning the remaining four matches without surrendering a single game.
At second singles, Wilson Dee delivered a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory, while Ethan Qian matched that effort at third singles with another 6-0, 6-0 win.
Montgomery carried that momentum into doubles play. The first doubles team of Srikar Bavigadda and Advaith Molakaseema cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and the second doubles pair of Arjun Poddar and Sanjay Balaji completed the sweep with another 6-0, 6-0 result.
The Cougars (1-0) showcased both depth and precision across the lineup, rebounding quickly after the opening loss at first singles to secure the match.
