Montgomery Township History was made at Cougar Stadium as the Montgomery High School girls varsity lacrosse team captured its first conference championship in program history with a 12–7 victory over North Hunterdon.

The win pushes the Cougars to a perfect 7-0 record and marks a significant milestone for a program that has steadily built toward this moment under head coach Joseph Riccardi.

“This is something really special,” Riccardi said following the game. “I could not be more proud of these girls. We have such a good core group, and it’s amazing to watch these young kids come in and mature into young adults. We also have a strong crop of freshmen in the program, which makes this even more exciting.”

Balanced Attack Powers Historic Win
Montgomery’s offense once again proved dynamic and balanced, with multiple contributors leading the way.

Elliana Pizzulli delivered with five goals and an assist, continuing her dominant season. Kennedy Dexter added three goals and an assist, while Emma Scrudato contributed a goal and two assists to keep the offense flowing.

Sophia Soron chipped in two goals, and Carson Benedict added another as the Cougars consistently found ways to generate scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

Defense Holds Firm
While the offense set the tone, Montgomery’s defense played a key role in securing the win, limiting North Hunterdon’s chances and maintaining control of the game’s tempo.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Andes recorded four saves, anchoring a defensive effort that held North Hunterdon to seven goals despite 17 shots on target. The Cougars also showed strength in possession, with solid performances in ground balls and draw controls helping to maintain momentum.

Milestone Achieved — With More Ahead
Despite the significance of the conference title, Riccardi emphasized that the team remains focused on the bigger picture.

The early clinching of the conference reflects a schedule weighted toward divisional opponents in the first half of the season, meaning the Cougars still have a full slate of games remaining.

“This is a great accomplishment, but there’s still a lot of lacrosse left to play,” Riccardi said.

Looking ahead, Montgomery will turn its attention to the upcoming county tournament in early May, followed by postseason play in the state tournament.
