As National Small Business Week is observed from May 3 through May 9, residents have a timely opportunity to recognize the role small businesses play in shaping the character and strength of the community.

For more than 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has marked National Small Business Week as a way to acknowledge the hard work, ingenuity and dedication of small business owners across the country, as well as their lasting contributions to the economy. In Montgomery, that recognition is reflected in the many shops, restaurants and service-based businesses that help define the township’s local identity.

The Montgomery Business Association’s – Shop Local message serves as a reminder that supporting neighborhood businesses has an impact far beyond a single purchase. When residents choose to spend their dollars locally, they are investing in the businesses that help sustain the local economy, provide jobs and contribute to the vibrancy of the community.

Montgomery’s restaurants, in particular, continue to be a point of pride, offering some of the area’s most inviting dining experiences and quality cuisine. Retail shops, professional services and other local establishments also play an essential role, employing residents and helping maintain a strong local business network.

Support for small businesses can have a ripple effect throughout the township. Each business represents not only an owner’s vision and commitment, but also the livelihoods of employees and families who depend on a healthy local economy. In that way, shopping local becomes more than a convenience — it becomes a meaningful way to give back to the community.

National Small Business Week offers an ideal occasion for residents to show their appreciation for the businesses that make Montgomery special. Whether by dining locally, visiting a neighborhood shop or using a local service, community support can go a long way in helping small businesses continue to thrive.

When you shop local, you give back to your community — and help sustain the businesses, restaurants and services that make Montgomery home.
