Cougars Sweep Key Matchups as Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse and Softball Deliver Wins

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Montgomery High School turned in a strong all-around performance across multiple spring sports contests, highlighted by victories from both lacrosse programs and a high-scoring softball win over Princeton.

Boys Lacrosse: Montgomery 10, Delaware Valley 8

The Montgomery boys lacrosse team secured a 10-8 victory over Delaware Valley, earning its first win of the season behind a balanced and efficient offensive effort.

After a quiet opening half, Montgomery found its rhythm offensively, finishing with 10 goals on 23 shots on goal. The Cougars were led by Zach Mutton, who delivered a standout performance with six goals and one assist, accounting for seven points.

Will Schwartz played a key role as a facilitator, recording five assists to go along with a goal, while Colin Long added two goals and contributed heavily on the ground with seven ground ballsPatrick Petrozzini chipped in with a goal and an assist.

In goal, Xander Mancilla anchored the defense with 10 saves, helping Montgomery hold off Delaware Valley’s late push.

The Cougars finished with 17 total points (10 goals, seven assists), showcasing improved offensive chemistry and execution.

Girls Lacrosse: Montgomery 12, Ridge 11

The Montgomery girls lacrosse team remained unbeaten, improving to 4-0 with a 12-11 win over Ridge in a tightly contested matchup.

The game was evenly played throughout, with both teams tied after each of the first three quarters before Montgomery edged ahead with a 3-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Kennedy Dexter led the Cougars with four goals, while Elliana Pizzulli added three goals and dominated possession with seven draw controls and three free-position conversions.

Montgomery received contributions across the lineup, including Lexi Lopez (1 goal, 2 assists) and Sophia Soron (1 goal, 1 assist). The Cougars’ offense produced 12 goals and four assists in a balanced attack.

Defensively, goalkeeper Elizabeth Andes delivered a strong performance with 16 saves, helping Montgomery withstand Ridge’s 24 shots on goal and secure the narrow victory.

Montgomery also controlled key possession metrics, winning 21 draw controls, which proved critical in a game decided by a single goal.

Softball: Montgomery 13, Princeton 11

On the diamond, Montgomery outlasted Princeton in a high-scoring contest, earning a 13-11 victory behind a decisive third inning.

Montgomery (3-1) built an early lead with runs in the first and second innings before erupting for nine runs in the third, turning a close game into a significant advantage.

Princeton responded with a six-run third and continued to apply pressure, but Montgomery maintained its lead and added an insurance run in the sixth.

The Cougars tallied 10 hits, with several players contributing offensively. Matilda Suh led the way, going deep for a home run while scoring three runs and driving in two. Ryane Riddell added two hits and two RBIs, while Allison McKnight drove in three runs.

Additional contributions came from Isabella Malek (two hits, one RBI) and Alex Winer (one hit, two RBIs), as Montgomery produced 11 RBIs on 13 runs.

In the circle, Suh earned the win, pitching a complete game while navigating a Princeton lineup that collected 15 hits.
