Johnson, Schulberg Power Cougars Past WW-P North in Dominant Home Win

SKILLMAN — The Montgomery High School girls varsity basketball team turned in one of its most complete performances of the season Wednesday night, rolling to a 54–25 home victory over West Windsor–Plainsboro North.
The win evens Montgomery’s record at 4–4.
The Cougars set the tone immediately, opening the game on an 18–3 run in the first quarter behind aggressive defense and efficient perimeter shooting. Although both offenses cooled in the second period with North outscoring Montgomery 4–7, the Cougars still carried a 22–10 lead into halftime.
Montgomery put the game out of reach in the third quarter, exploding for 20 points while holding WW-P North to just 5. The Cougars led 42–15 after three and closed strong with a 12–10 edge in the final period.
Alia Johnson delivered a standout all-around performance, finishing with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and an eye-popping 12 steals as she repeatedly turned defense into transition opportunities.
Aliza Schulberg complemented her in the backcourt with a team-high 17 points, including four three-pointers, along with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
Montgomery also received key contributions throughout the lineup:
- Virginia Herring added 6 points and 4 rebounds.
- Sophia Lehmann knocked down two three-pointers for 6 points.
- Anya Saini chipped in 2 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 2 steals.
- Abby Schwartz finished with 3 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
In total, the Cougars collected 34 rebounds, handed out 10 assists and recorded 28 steals, numbers that reflected their control of the glass and defensive intensity from start to finish.
West Windsor–Plainsboro North (3–7) was led by Annika Marda with 7 points, while Laya Krishna andmKayalvizhi Kailashram-Krishna scored 5 points apiece. North never recovered from Montgomery’s early surge and struggled to generate consistent offense against the Cougars’ pressure.
Montgomery returns to action tonight against Bridgewater Raritan in Bridgewater.
