Hillsborough Defense Stifles Montgomery Girls

Hillsborough (8–2) used a dominant first half and balanced scoring to defeat Montgomery (3–4), 55–17, in girls varsity action.

The Raiders set the tone early, racing out to a 19–3 lead after the first quarter and taking a 35–9 advantage into halftime. Hillsborough continued to control the tempo on both ends of the floor, outscoring Montgomery in every period and limiting the Cougars to single digits in each quarter.

Hillsborough’s Isabella Ruh put together a standout performance with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals, recording a double-double in the win. Victoria Liedl added 11 points on three three-pointers, while Alexa Gaspar chipped in 10 points and Kayla Cebedo filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Nevya Loniewski contributed 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals as Hillsborough’s pressure defense repeatedly turned turnovers into points.

Montgomery was led by Anya Saini, who scored 7 points, including the Cougars’ lone three-pointer, and added 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Alia Johnson finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Aliza Schulberg contributed 3 points and 3 boards. Despite solid individual efforts on the glass and defensively, the Cougars struggled to find consistent offense against Hillsborough’s length and ball pressure.

Montgomery will look to rebound at home tonight, hosting West Windsor-Plainsboro at 5:30 p.m.

Balanced Attack Powers Montgomery Boys Past Overbrook

The Montgomery boys (9–3) turned a close game into a convincing 66–45 victory over Overbrook (8–2), using a big fourth quarter and a balanced scoring attack to secure the win.

Overbrook edged ahead 17–16 after the opening period behind strong perimeter shooting, but Montgomery responded with a 13–6 second quarter to take a 29–23 lead at the half. The Cougars extended the margin to 43–35 after three quarters, then broke the game open in the fourth with a 23–10 surge.

Mike Simborski anchored the offense with a game-high 19 points, attacking the rim and converting at the free-throw line. Connor Benedict gave Montgomery a major boost from beyond the arc, knocking down five three-pointers and finishing with 15 points.

James Kamara added 14 points, scoring both inside and out, while Ethan Lin contributed 7 points Shriyans Mallavarapu chipped in 6 points off the bench, and Sebastian Kyler hit a three-pointer to round out a deep scoring effort. In all, nine Cougars saw the floor as Montgomery wore down Overbrook over four quarters.

Overbrook was led by Lamar Little with 18 points and Bilal Robinson with 17, combining for nearly all of the Rams’ offense. J.R. Stanley added 6 points, but Overbrook struggled to match Montgomery’s balance in the second half as the Cougars tightened their defense and pushed the pace.

With the win, the Montgomery boys continued their strong start to the season, while the girls will aim to regroup quickly as both programs move deeper into their winter schedules.
