The Montgomery Cougars girls varsity lacrosse team continued their dominant start to the season with a hard-fought 10-7 victory over North Hunterdon on Thursday evening at Cougar Stadium. The win pushed the Cougars to a perfect 3-0 on the season, while North Hunterdon fell to 0-2.
Junior attacker Elliana Pizzulli led the charge for Montgomery with a standout performance, netting six goals and contributing all over the field with two ground balls and six draw controls. Pizzulli’s scoring burst helped the Cougars maintain momentum in a tight contest that remained close through three quarters.
Freshman Kennedy Dexter also made her presence felt, tallying two goals and an assist while adding three ground balls and two draw controls in a well-rounded effort. Junior Lexi Lopez and sophomore Sophie Soron each chipped in with a goal apiece to round out the scoring. Soron was active in the midfield, collecting two ground balls and two draw controls, while Lopez added one ground ball.
Anchoring the defense, senior goalie Reagan McCoy came up big in net with 12 saves against seven goals allowed, along with a ground ball, keeping North Hunterdon from mounting a late comeback.
