Montgomery Cougars Outlast Princeton 12–9 in Cold, Misty Matchup

Despite a week riddled with weather delays, the Montgomery Cougars varsity girls lacrosse team braved the elements Saturday to earn a hard-fought 12–9 win over rival Princeton. In a game played under damp, misty skies and brisk temperatures, the Cougars showed grit and firepower, led by a dominant performance from junior Ellie Pizzulli.

Pizzulli put on a clinic, netting 6 goals and dishing out 2 assists, while also scooping up 6 ground balls and securing 3 draw controls. Her relentless two-way play helped Montgomery stay ahead in a tight battle that never saw either team truly pull away until late.

Fellow junior Emma Scrudato added a powerful offensive punch with 4 goals and 1 assist, while also contributing 2 ground balls. Lexi Lopez, also a junior, chipped in with 3 goals and 1 assist to round out Montgomery’s scoring barrage.

The game was neck-and-neck through the first half, with both teams trading goals in tough conditions. But the Cougars found their rhythm in the second half, using a combination of sharp passing, aggressive midfield play, and strong defense to build and maintain their lead.

With the win, Montgomery improves its record to 4-0 and will look to keep the momentum going as they travel to face Bernards on Tuesday, April 8.

First draw is scheduled for 4:30 PM at Bernards.
