MONTGOMERY — Montgomery Township officials are speaking out following recent news involving the circulation of inappropriate images of students at Montgomery High School, calling the matter deeply troubling and reaffirming that the safety of children remains a top priority.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Township Committee, Mayor Neena Singh said local officials were “shocked and saddened” to learn of the situation. The statement comes as the Montgomery Township Board of Education cooperates with the New Jersey State Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the matter.
Township officials also expressed confidence in the investigative process now underway. According to the statement, the committee is encouraged by the Board of Education’s cooperation with law enforcement and believes the matter will be fully investigated by the appropriate authorities.
“The Township Committee is heartened to hear that the Montgomery Board of Education is cooperating with the State Police and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure justice for those who were affected,” Singh said. “We are confident that state and federal law enforcement agencies will appropriately investigate this matter.”
While few details were included in the statement, township leaders used the opportunity to emphasize their broader commitment to student safety and community support. Singh said the township will continue working through the Montgomery/Rocky Hill Municipal Alliance to provide resources for students and parents and to strengthen collaboration among local government, schools, and community partners.
“The safety of our children is a top priority, and through our Montgomery/Rocky Hill Municipal Alliance we will continue providing resources to students and parents that bring together our municipalities, schools, and community partners to ensure a safe environment for all of our students,” Singh said.
The statement also highlighted a recent Municipal Alliance program aimed at helping families address the challenges children face in an increasingly digital world. On Wednesday evening, the alliance hosted a program titled Beyond the Screens: Parenting in the Digital Age. Township officials encouraged residents to take part in future programs and community offerings.
The mayor’s statement did not include additional information about the specific allegations or the status of the investigation. However, it underscored the seriousness with which township officials are viewing the matter and their expectation that the proper agencies will continue to lead the response.
The statement was released on behalf of the Montgomery Township Committee following recent developments at the high school that have drawn concern from families and the community at large.
