In a proud and heartfelt ceremony held during the April 3 Montgomery Township Committee meeting, Sgt. Sean Sullivan was officially promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the Montgomery Township Police Department. Mayor Neena Singh administered the oath of office, swearing in Lt. Sullivan before an audience of township officials, fellow officers, friends, and family.

Chief Silvio Bett introduced Lt. Sullivan with a warm and respectful tribute, highlighting his extensive experience and unwavering commitment to the community. “Lieutenant Sullivan has proven himself through two decades of dedicated service,” said Chief Bett. “He has taken on some of the most challenging elective leadership and command courses offered in law enforcement today.”

A graduate of Rutgers University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice, Lt. Sullivan went on to complete his training at the Burlington County Police Academy in 2003. Shortly thereafter, he began his distinguished career with the Montgomery Township Police Department.

Over the last 20 years, Sullivan has worn many hats within the department—serving as a patrol officer, traffic officer, and detective. He was promoted to sergeant in 2017, where he played a vital role in traffic safety and operations and can often be found interacting with the OHES students as they enter school in the morning. Throughout his tenure, Lt. Sullivan has received numerous commendations and awards for acts of bravery and dedication, including a Valor Award and a prestigious 200 Club of Somerset County award. Notably, he was recognized for rescuing residents from a burning home in Cherry Valley and saving an individual from a burning apartment in Pike Run.

In his new role, Lt. Sullivan will be assigned to the Operations Division, overseeing all patrol-related functions. He steps into the position previously held by Lt. Rock, who retired on April 1.

During his remarks, Lt. Sullivan expressed deep gratitude to those who helped guide and support him throughout his career. “I want to thank Chief Bett, Lt. Andrew Perry, Lt. Jason Larsen, and recently retired Lt. Rock for believing in me,” he said. He also offered a heartfelt tribute to his family, especially his wife Pam and their four children. “Their sacrifices have made this possible, and I’m eternally grateful.”
