At the June 17 Montgomery Township Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Mary McLoughlin opened the public session with a moment of celebration, honoring the Montgomery High School Science Olympiad team for their outstanding performance this year. The team was recognized as the 2025 New Jersey State Champions and earned a spot among the top ten teams in the entire country—a remarkable achievement reflecting both talent and dedication.
“We are immensely proud of our students and the dedicated coaching staff who helped guide them to this incredible success,” McLoughlin said as she welcomed the team to the meeting.
Jason Sullivan, Science Supervisor at the high school, provided a detailed account of the team’s competitive season, which included regional and national-level tournaments. “It’s basically a 365-day-a-year commitment,” Sullivan noted. “These students have put in countless hours. They are super talented, and they work super, super hard. It’s a great combination.”
The team’s season began with a trip to Cornell University, followed by the regional competition at Rutgers–Camden. They then went on to compete at MIT, Princeton, and the University of Pennsylvania—each event adding to the team’s momentum. Their win marks their third state title in recent years, with championships also earned in 2022 and 2024.
Students presented a few of their award-winning projects at the meeting, offering board members and the public a glimpse into the range of scientific challenges they tackled throughout the season, including engineering design, lab experimentation, and theoretical problem-solving.
