Publisher’s Note: Headline News Montgomery’s Policy on Political Advertising and Candidate Endorsements
Headline News Montgomery Staff
As Montgomery enters another election season, Headline News Montgomery wants to clearly state its editorial policy regarding political candidates, campaigns and election coverage.
Headline News Montgomery does not endorse candidates for public office. We also do not accept advertising dollars from political candidates, campaign committees or political organizations seeking to influence the outcome of an election.
This policy is intentional.
As a local news outlet, our role is to report on issues, candidates, public meetings and community matters in a fair, factual and independent manner. We believe that accepting paid political advertising could create the appearance of favoritism or raise questions about whether campaign spending has any influence on coverage.
To avoid that concern, we do not sell political advertising and we do not publish candidate endorsements.
Our goal is to provide Montgomery residents with information they can use to make their own decisions. When election coverage is provided, we strive to treat candidates fairly, ask consistent questions when applicable, and present responses and relevant information in a clear and even-handed way.
This policy does not prevent Headline News Montgomery from reporting on elections, candidates, public forums, campaign issues or government matters. It simply reflects our commitment to keeping a clear separation between journalism and political advocacy.
We appreciate the trust of our readers and remain committed to independent, community-focused local reporting.
