New Lidded Recycling Bins Coming to Skillman Section of Montgomery Township

March 28, 2025

By Nicholas Mistretta

Recycling is getting an upgrade in Montgomery Township. At the March 21 Township Committee meeting, Township Administrator Lori Savron announced that approximately 200 households on the western side of town will soon receive new recycling buckets with lids. The lidded containers are intended to help reduce wind-blown litter and keep animals out of recyclables—common concerns among residents.

The new bins are designed to be compatible with automated collection trucks, which the county is gradually incorporating into its waste management system. However, a nationwide backlog on the specialized trucks means most Skillman residents will have to wait a bit longer for their bins.

“We’re currently facing a 1.5-year delay in getting the automated trucks needed to support this system county-wide,” Savron explained.

The remainder of Skillman is expected to receive the new bins next year, as trucks become available. In the meantime, the initial group of 200 households will be contacted with instructions on how and when to start using the new containers.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the township website or by attending future Township Committee meetings.
