BELLE MEAD, NJ — Montgomery United Methodist Church will mark its 60th anniversary with a special Homecoming Sunday worship service on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m., inviting current and former members, past pastors, friends of the congregation and the wider community to take part in the celebration.
Founded on Sept. 11, 1966, the church has served generations of families through worship, education, outreach, community partnerships and service throughout Montgomery, Hillsborough and Princeton.
The anniversary celebration will carry the theme “WOW! Celebrating 60 Years of God’s Faithfulness.” The service will also conclude the congregation’s summer sermon series, Three Essential Prayers, inspired by Anne Lamott’s book Help, Thanks, Wow. The final message, “Wow,” will focus on wonder and gratitude for the church’s past, present and future.
“An anniversary gives us an opportunity to look backward with gratitude, but it also invites us to look forward with hope,” said the Rev. Jessica Robertson, pastor of Montgomery United Methodist Church. “For sixty years, people have poured their faith, love, prayers, gifts, and service into this congregation.”
The celebration will include special guests, music, recognition of the church’s history and a reception following the service. Historical photographs and memorabilia from the congregation’s six decades will also be on display.
Montgomery United Methodist Church is located at 117 Sunset Road in Belle Mead.
All are welcome to attend, whether they have longstanding ties to the church, have not visited in many years or are joining the congregation for the first time.
