Montgomery, NJ – March 31, 2025 — As New Jersey joins the nationwide observance of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month this April, the Montgomery Township Police Department (MTPD) is ramping up its enforcement efforts to combat dangerous driving behaviors that take motorists’ attention off the road.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,308 lives in 2022 alone. In response, MTPD will be increasing patrols and targeting distracted driving violations throughout the month, with a focus on cell phone use—particularly texting while driving—and other behaviors that endanger public safety.
“Even a momentary glance at a phone can have tragic consequences,” the department emphasized in its press release. Officers will be on the lookout for any actions that divert drivers’ attention from the road, reinforcing the message that distracted driving is not only dangerous but also illegal.
MTPD is urging all drivers to do their part in reducing traffic accidents and saving lives.
