Montgomery Teams Take Tough Losses on the Road

Bridgewater, NJ — It was a rough outing for Montgomery High School’s Girls Varsity Lacrosse and Softball teams on Wednesday, as both squads suffered defeats on the road.

In Bridgewater, the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team fell to Bridgewater-Raritan, 17-7. The Panthers, now 9-1 on the season, proved too much for the Cougars, using their depth and speed to control the pace throughout the game. Montgomery’s offensive efforts were led by junior standout Ellie Pizzulli, who continued her strong season with 4 goals, 4 ground balls, and 3 draw controls. Mollie Little, Lexi Lopez, and Sophie Soron each added a goal, but the Cougars struggled to match Bridgewater-Raritan’s high-powered attack. In net, Regan McCoy and Victoria Formica combined for five saves.

Meanwhile, over in Delaware Valley, the struggles continued for the Girls Softball team. Coming off a confidence-boosting win last week against Mount St. Mary’s, the Cougars were hoping to build momentum. Instead, they were handed a 16-1 loss in a run-rule shortened contest. Montgomery managed just three hits and committed four errors in the field, allowing Delaware Valley to take full control early. Pitcher Connor Fogarty went three innings, surrendering nine hits and 12 runs — 11 of them earned. Offensively, Ella Malek, Charlotte Spina, and Nicolette Shackelford each chipped in with a hit, but the Cougars couldn’t string anything together against a sharp Delaware Valley squad.
