Montgomery Police Hosting Holiday Food Drive Drop-Off for Families in Need

Nicholas Mistretta

Montgomery Township residents are being invited to help fight food insecurity this holiday season by contributing to a county-wide community food drive supported by local police.

The Montgomery Township Police Department is serving as a collection site for the Somerset County Association of Chiefs of Police Non-Perishable Food Drive, an effort aimed at supporting residents across the county who are struggling to put food on the table.

A donation box has been placed in the lobby of the Montgomery Police Department, where community members can drop off items now through December 31, 2025.

The drive accepts a wide range of much-needed products, including:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Health and beauty products
  • Baby formula, baby wipes, and diapers

All donated items should be sealed and within their expiration date to ensure they can be safely distributed to families in need.

The initiative is part of a broader effort organized by the Somerset County Association of Chiefs of Police, which has opened donation sites at every police department in Somerset County from November 17 through December 31.

“Thousands of individuals in our community struggle with hunger every day,” the Association noted in its announcement of the drive, emphasizing that the winter holidays tend to magnify the strain on households already facing hardship. The campaign encourages residents to step forward in a simple but meaningful way: by adding a few extra items to their shopping carts and dropping them off at a local police department.

Montgomery officers and staff will oversee the collection at police headquarters, ensuring that donations are properly handled and passed along for distribution to local organizations that serve vulnerable families and individuals throughout the county.

The drive underscores law enforcement’s role beyond public safety, reflecting a growing emphasis on community partnership and support. By participating, residents not only help stock pantry shelves, but also strengthen the connection between police departments and the communities they serve.

Those wishing to donate may visit the Montgomery Township Police Department lobby during regular hours between now and December 31 to place items in the designated collection box.

Organizers are encouraging broad participation and describe the effort as an easy way for residents to make a tangible difference at a time of year when the need is especially great.

For additional information, residents may contact the Montgomery Township Police Department or any Somerset County police agency.

Community members are invited to join in this county-wide effort and help ensure that more families enter the new year with food on the table and essential supplies in hand.
