Montgomery’s spring sports squads delivered a full slate of drama and standout individual performances across the field Tuesday, highlighted by a pair of lacrosse victories and a hard-fought softball setback.
Girls Lacrosse Edges Mount St. Mary in Thriller
Montgomery’s undefeated girls lacrosse team improved to 8-0 with an 11-10 victory over Mount St. Mary, surviving a back-and-forth contest that wasn’t decided until the final quarter.
After building a 10-10 deadlock through three periods, Montgomery’s defense clamped down in the fourth, holding Mount St. Mary scoreless while finding the decisive goal.
Elliana Pizzulli led the Cougars offensively with a five-point performance (3 goals, 2 assists), controlling the pace and contributing across the stat sheet, including five draw controls and three free-position goals. Montgomery’s attack depth was further bolstered by Kennedy Dexter, Mollie Little, Carson Benedict, and Sophia Soron, each tallying two goals.
Midfield contributions from Lexi Lopez and Emma Scrudato added key assists, while Anya Obe and Rachel Haggan made their presence felt in possession and defensive efforts.
In goal, Elizabeth Andes anchored the win with 10 saves, helping Montgomery withstand a strong seven-point outing from Mount St. Mary’s Emily Castela.
Boys Lacrosse Breaks Through with Complete Performance
Montgomery’s boys lacrosse team evened its record at 3-4 with a convincing 12-9 win over Voorhees, fueled by balanced scoring and a dominant effort in goal.
Colin Long paced the offense with a seven-point explosion (4 goals, 3 assists), consistently creating opportunities and finishing possessions. He was supported by Miles Dawson and Will Schwartz, who each recorded four points, while Zach Mutton added two goals and strong work on the ground with four ground balls.
Defensively, Montgomery controlled possession with 20 ground balls, while goaltender Xander Mancilla delivered a standout performance, stopping 20 shots to secure the victory.
Lucas Cerra and Patrick Petrozzini each chipped in with a goal, rounding out a well-distributed offensive effort that proved too much for Voorhees to overcome.
Softball Falls in High-Scoring Battle
On the diamond, Montgomery softball dropped a 9-7 decision to Hopewell Valley in a game marked by offensive bursts from both sides.
Montgomery rallied with a four-run fourth inning and added late pressure, but Hopewell Valley’s consistent scoring proved decisive.
Nicolette Shackelford led the Cougars at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple, while Maggie McGlynn also contributed two hits. Ryane Riddell and Matilda Suh each drove in runs, with Riddell delivering a key extra-base hit.
Alex Winer added speed on the bases with three stolen bases and scored twice, helping spark Montgomery’s offense.
In the circle, Matilda Suh pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs (four earned) while striking out one.

Hopewell Valley was paced by Megan Kurian’s three RBIs and strong pitching from Elizabeth Zelin, who earned the win with eight strikeouts.
Despite the loss, Montgomery’s offensive production and aggressive base running kept the contest competitive into the final inning.
