Montgomery Golf Earns 149–162 Victory Over Hunterdon Central Behind Balanced Scoring

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Montgomery High School boys varsity golf team delivered a strong early-season performance, defeating Hunterdon Central, 149–162, in a nine-hole stroke play match.
Competing on a course playing to a par of 36, Montgomery (2-1) showcased depth and consistency across its lineup, placing four golfers among the top four finishers to secure the 13-stroke victory.
Leading the way for the Cougars was Connor Benedict, who earned medalist honors with an impressive round of 34, finishing two strokes under par. Benedict’s performance set the tone for Montgomery’s steady showing throughout the match.
Ethan Chen followed with a 37, while Tyler Sugarman and Aidan Sim each carded rounds of 39, tying for third place overall. The quartet’s combined effort proved decisive, as Montgomery built separation early and maintained control through the nine-hole contest.
Hunterdon Central (0-1) was led by Anthony Mondelli and Matthew White, who each posted rounds of 40 to tie for fifth place. Teammates David Berger and Jaxson Hunt rounded out the scoring with 41s.
The match, played under stroke play format, highlighted Montgomery’s ability to deliver consistent scoring across its lineup—a key factor in the team’s early-season success.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-1 on the season and will look to build on their momentum in upcoming matches.
