The Montgomery boys’ swim team turned in a series of strong individual and relay performances but ultimately came up short against Pingry, falling 105–65 in a dual meet.
Pingry’s depth carried the day, as the visitors captured the top spot in all but one event. Montgomery dropped to 0–2, while Pingry improved to 1–2.
McWha delivers lone individual win, big workload
Montgomery’s lone event victory came from Liam McWha in the 200-yard freestyle, where he out-touched Pingry’s Douglas McNaugher in a tight race. McWha posted a winning time of 1:51.73, holding his pace over the final 50 yards to secure first place.
McWha was a workhorse for the Cougars throughout the meet. He later took second in the 100 butterfly in 56.45, just behind Pingry’s Max Ruffer, and anchored Montgomery’s top relay efforts.
In the 200 freestyle relay, McWha teamed with Nicholas Paradizov, Jerry Qiu and Elves Huang to finish second in 1:39.97. He returned again in the 400 freestyle relay, joining Paradizov, Lars Harrison and Kobe Solivan for another runner-up spot in 3:38.95, closing out the meet on a strong note for Montgomery.
