Fal-Rooney Sports Camps Celebrates 20 Years of Sports, Leadership and Summer Memories

MONTGOMERY, NJ — For two decades, Fal-Rooney Sports Camps has been giving local children a place to stay active, develop new skills and learn lessons that extend well beyond the playing field.

This summer, the Montgomery-based camp is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking a milestone for a program founded by John Rooney and Mike Falco with an emphasis on both athletics and leadership development.

Held at the Lower Middle School campus, Fal-Rooney offers children a variety of sports and physical activities throughout the summer. But organizers say the program was designed to be about more than simply playing games.

Leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and personal growth are also woven into the camp experience, with older participants and staff serving as role models for younger campers.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Fal-Rooney invited Montgomery Township Mayor Neena Singh to visit the camp, observe the program in action and spend time speaking with both campers and role models.

Singh had an opportunity to see firsthand how the camp combines physical activity with its broader goal of helping young people develop confidence and leadership skills.

For Falco, who serves as athletic director, reaching the 20-year mark represents two decades of children coming through the program, participating in sports and becoming part of a summer tradition in Montgomery.

The longevity of Fal-Rooney also reflects the role local recreation programs can play in bringing children together outside of the classroom. Over the years, campers have had the opportunity to try different activities, compete, work as teams and learn from the older students and adults around them.

What began with a shared vision by Rooney and Falco has now become a program that has welcomed generations of Montgomery-area children.

Twenty summers later, the games are still being played, new campers are still arriving and Fal-Rooney continues working toward the same goal: keeping kids active while helping build the next generation of leaders.
