It was a banner day for Montgomery High School athletics as three Cougar varsity teams — baseball, girls lacrosse, and softball — delivering decisive wins on Wednesday.

Baseball: Patience at the Plate, Power on the Mound
The Montgomery varsity baseball team (6-12) turned patience into production in an 8–4 victory over Pingry (5-16), scoring eight runs on just four hits thanks to a season-high 12 walks drawn at the plate.
John Donahue and Alex Bender each reached base three times via walks, setting the table for a Cougar offense that took advantage of every opportunity. Henry Maddox went 2-for-5, while Kenta Komatsu and Michael Englert contributed with key hits. Englert’s double drove in a run and he came around to score as well.
On the mound, Jake Hayes was dominant, striking out 12 batters over eight innings while allowing just two earned runs on eight hits. Maddox closed the door with a scoreless ninth, stranding three and preserving the win.
Girls Lacrosse: Pizzuli Powers Cougars Past Ravens
Montgomery girls varsity lacrosse (11-8) continued its strong season with a 14–9 win over Robbinsville (9-10), propelled by a fast start and a dominant third quarter.
Ellie Pizzuli led all scorers with five goals, two ground balls, and three caused possessions. Emma Scrudato and Sophie Soron each netted hat tricks, while Mollie Little and Kennedy Dexter added to the tally. Montgomery poured in six goals in the opening quarter and kept the pressure high with five more in the third.
In goal, Reagan McCoy recorded four saves, allowing just six goals during her time between the pipes. The Cougars totaled 17 shots on goal and collected 15 ground balls in a strong all-around performance.

Softball: Riddell Dominates in Circle and at the Plate
Montgomery varsity softball (4-13) found their stride indoors at Diamond Nation, rolling past Trenton 13–3 behind a complete performance from Ryane Riddell.
Riddell was unstoppable, going 3-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs while also tossing six innings of one-hit ball. Despite issuing nine walks, she struck out nine and kept Trenton off balance all game long.
Ella Malek had a three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Connor Fogarty and Maggie McGlynn each contributed two hits as the Cougars piled up 11 total hits in the win.
