Deptford, N.J. — The Montgomery High School boys basketball team is headed to Rutgers.

The Cougars delivered a commanding performance in the NJSIAA semifinal round, defeating Cherry Hill South 67–37 at Deptford High School to secure a spot in the state championship game.

Montgomery controlled the game from the outset, building momentum on both ends of the floor and steadily pulling away as the contest progressed. The Cougars’ balanced attack and disciplined defense limited Cherry Hill South’s opportunities while allowing Montgomery to extend its lead throughout the game.

By the final buzzer, Montgomery had turned the semifinal matchup into a decisive victory, advancing to the NJSIAA state finals.

With the win, the Cougars will now play for a state championship Saturday at Rutgers University, where they will face an opponent that was still to be determined at the time of the game’s conclusion.

The victory continues what has been an impressive postseason run for Montgomery, which has shown both offensive firepower and defensive consistency throughout the tournament.

Playing on the neutral court at Deptford High School, the Cougars remained composed under the pressure of the semifinal stage. Their ability to execute offensively while maintaining defensive intensity proved to be the difference against Cherry Hill South.

Now, with one more game remaining, Montgomery will have the opportunity to compete for the program’s ultimate prize — a state championship.

The Cougars will take the court at Rutgers University on Saturday, where they will look to cap their season with a title when they face the winner of the other semifinal matchup.
