MONTGOMERY, NJ — The Montgomery High School girls volleyball team continues to make winning look routine.
The Cougars improved to an impressive 14-1 on the season with a straight-set victory over Bernards, taking the match 25-16, 25-18 and adding another convincing win to an already dominant fall campaign. Montgomery controlled the match with a balanced attack, strong back-row defense and a particularly effective day from the service line.
Koslow Leads Cougar Attack
Sidney Koslow paced Montgomery offensively with a team-high nine kills, while also contributing eight digs and two assists. Anshika Verma and Leah Fenmore each added five kills. Verma also recorded a block, while Anita Balashova finished with three kills and another block. The Cougars totaled 22 kills as a team. Ritisha Mungi once again directed the offense, finishing with 17 assists along with five digs and two aces. Selina Tan added four assists as Montgomery continued to spread the ball around the court.
Service Game Helps Montgomery Take Control
Montgomery was especially productive from the service line, recording 17 aces. Pooja Venkat led the way with seven aces, while Tan contributed four. Dani Cepeda, Verma and Mungi each added two. That pressure helped the Cougars establish control early, winning the opening set by nine points before closing out the match with a seven-point victory in the second. Montgomery also recorded 30 service points as a team.
Defense Continues to Deliver
The Cougars backed up their offense with another strong defensive performance, totaling 48 digs. Tan led Montgomery with 12 digs, followed by Koslow with eight and Venkat with seven. Carly Zissman added six digs, while Mungi and Cepeda each finished with five. The balanced defensive effort helped prevent Bernards from gaining momentum and kept Montgomery in control throughout both sets.
Another Win in a Remarkable Start
The victory moved Montgomery to 14-1, while Bernards fell to 3-8. What has stood out throughout the Cougars’ season has been the depth of their production. Different players have led the offense from match to match, while Mungi’s setting and a deep group of defenders and servers have consistently given Montgomery multiple ways to win. Against Bernards, it was more of the same: steady offense, aggressive serving and contributions throughout the lineup. Fourteen wins into the season, the Cougars simply keep rolling.
