Defensively, Maya Flores anchored the back row with 15 digs, while Isabella Barber chipped in five. Meredith Shore added three kills and three service points, and Anshika Verma contributed both kills and the Cougars’ lone block of the match.

Montgomery Field Hockey Falls to Watchung Hills in Home Battle
The Montgomery Cougars varsity field hockey team couldn’t hold off a strong second-half surge by Watchung Hills on Thursday, falling 4-2 at home in a game that was competitive from start to finish. The loss brings Montgomery to 2-3 on the season, while Watchung Hills evened its record at 2-3.
Montgomery struck first in the opening quarter when Marina Barasch put the Cougars on the board off an assist from Elli Pizzuli, giving the home team early momentum. But Watchung Hills responded in the second quarter with a goal from Charlotte Johnstone, sending the teams into halftime knotted at 1-1.
The Warriors took control after the break. Johnstone scored her second goal of the match in the third quarter, followed minutes later by a tally from Nicole Johnstone, assisted by Chloe Lapetina. Suddenly down 3-1, the Cougars continued to fight and generated chances on their 14 penalty corners, but couldn’t convert.
In the fourth quarter, Montgomery’s Ella DeBruin cut the deficit to 3-2 with a timely goal, sparking hope for a late comeback. However, Watchung Hills quickly answered with an insurance goal from Alexa Cohen, assisted by Nicole Johnstone, to secure the 4-2 victory.
Montgomery goalkeeper Carrie Anderson kept her team in contention with six saves against 15 Watchung Hills shots on goal. Offensively, the Cougars managed 12 shots and controlled stretches of play, but couldn’t match the Warriors’ finishing touch.
Bridgewater-Raritan Tops Montgomery, 3-0
The Montgomery Cougars girls varsity soccer team was unable to find its scoring touch on Friday, falling 3-0 on the road to a sharp Bridgewater-Raritan squad. The loss drops Montgomery to 4-2 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 2-3.
Bridgewater-Raritan wasted no time applying pressure, recording 20 shots on goal over the course of the match. Their persistence paid off early in the first half when Summer Winchock opened the scoring off an assist from Hayden Tormasi. Just minutes later, Madison Brocklehurst doubled the Panthers’ lead with help from Reese Reimann, sending the Cougars into halftime trailing 2-0.
Montgomery regrouped and generated chances of its own, tallying eight shots on goal, but couldn’t solve Bridgewater goalkeeper Brooke Engstrom, who turned aside all six saves she faced.
The Panthers sealed the game in the second half when Tormasi found the back of the net off another assist from Reimann, extending the lead to 3-0.
Cougars goalkeeper Victoria Formica recorded six saves under heavy pressure, keeping Montgomery within striking distance, but the Cougars’ attack was unable to break through the Panthers’ defensive line.
