COUGARS CORNER: Boys Tennis Triumphs While Girls Softball and Lacrosse Fall on a Mixed Tuesday in Cougar Country
While the Montgomery Cougars boy’s tennis team shined on the courts with a dominant performance over the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers, the girl’s softball and lacrosse squads faced tougher outings on Tuesday, April 15.
Softball Stumbles at Mount St. Mary’s
On the diamond, the Cougars were shut out 10-0 in six innings by the Mount St. Mary Lions. Despite scattering five hits, Montgomery couldn’t bring a runner home, and the game was ended early by mercy rule.

Senior Connor Fogarty was a bright spot at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a trio of singles. Allison McKnight and Maggie McGlynn chipped in with one single each, but the offense couldn’t string together enough to generate momentum.
Pitcher Ryane Riddle went the distance, tossing all six innings. She allowed 10 runs, 7 earned, on 9 hits while striking out 3 and walking 6. Defensive woes compounded the loss, as the Cougars committed 2 errors and suffered 6 passed balls behind the plate.

Lacrosse Lags Behind Against Pingry
Over in Basking Ridge, the girl’s lacrosse team struggled against the Pingry Big Blue Bears, falling 18-7 in a fast-paced matchup.
Pingry set the tone early, racing to a 6-spot in the first quarter and adding 5 more in the second to pull away. The Cougars were outshot 28-14 in the contest.
Junior Ellie Pizzulli continued her standout season, tallying 3 goals and 2 assists, along with 3 ground balls, 3 draw controls, and 1 forced turnover. Sophia Soron added 2 goals and led the team with 10 draw controls. Lexi Lopez scored twice and recorded one ground ball.
Goalkeeper Victoria Formica stood tall despite the onslaught, making 7 saves on 25 shots, while conceding 18 goals.
