Cookie Franco-Herman Appointed Chair of Montgomery Municipal Alliance

MONTGOMERY, NJ — The Montgomery Township Committee appointed longtime community volunteer and Board of Education member Cookie Franco-Herman as chair of the Montgomery Municipal Alliance during its Aug. 6 public meeting.

Franco-Herman was appointed through Resolution 26-8-217 to fill the vacancy left by Lori Huff, who previously served as chair of the Municipal Alliance.

Mayor Neena Singh introduced the resolution, noting Franco-Herman’s history of public service in Montgomery and telling those gathered that she is well known to many residents through her involvement in the community.

The resolution received affirmative votes from Committee members Douglas Herring and Mike Martin and Mayor Singh, as reflected in the meeting transcript. Franco-Herman was then administered the oath of office as the new Municipal Alliance chair.

Following the appointment, Franco-Herman thanked the Township Committee and said she had been considering how she would continue serving Montgomery as her time on the Board of Education comes to an end.

“I am winding down my term on the Board of Education and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but definitely wanted to continue volunteering in the community,” Franco-Herman said.

She noted that she has been involved in community service for approximately a decade, beginning in 2016, and said she was approached about her interest in taking on the Municipal Alliance position.

“I thought that was a perfect fit,” she said.

Franco-Herman also thanked Huff for her work leading the Municipal Alliance and said she hopes to build upon those efforts.

“I’m thankful to Laurie Huff for the work that she has done with the Municipal Alliance,” Franco-Herman said, adding that she looks forward to continuing that work while also pursuing additional initiatives in the months ahead.

The Montgomery Municipal Alliance works at the community level on programs and initiatives related to substance-use prevention, education and healthy decision-making. Franco-Herman’s appointment is for the remainder of the current term.
