
Big Wins for Softball and Girls Lacrosse Highlight Busy Day in Montgomery Sports, boys Tennis and Lacrosse fall

MONTGOMERY, NJ — It was a full slate of action for Montgomery Cougar athletics, with girls’ teams turning heads thanks to dominant performances on the field, while boys’ teams continued to battle through tough matchups.

Softball Roars Back with Run-Rule Rout
After a tough loss to Mount St. Mary, the Girls Varsity Softball team (1-5) responded in resounding fashion, dismantling Roselle Catholic (1-3) with a commanding 21-5 victory. The game was called after just three and a half innings due to the run rule, as the Cougars erupted for 10 runs in the first inning, 7 in the second, and 4 in the third, piling up 19 hits in the shortened contest. Connor Fogarty led the offensive barrage, going 3-for-4 with a pair of singles, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Charlotte Spina matched that hit total and drove in four runs. Maahi Sethi also tallied three hits, including a double, and added two RBIs and two runs scored. Adding to the hit fest Maggie McGlynn(3-for-3, 2 runs, RBI, walk) and Ella Malek (2-for-2, double, home run, 3 RBIs, 2 runs). Perhaps the most impressive outing came from Ryane Riddell, who turned in a perfect day at the plate (3-for-3 with a single, double, triple, and walk) while racking up four RBIs. She also earned the win in the circle, pitching four innings, allowing five runs on six hits, walking two, and striking out two.

Girls Lacrosse Keeps Rolling, Tops Somerville 20-13
The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team showcased their offensive firepower again, downing Somerville by a 20-13 margin in a steady, four-quarter performance. The Cougars kept the pressure on, firing 29 shots on goal and scoring 7 in the first, 5 in the second and third, and 4 in the fourth. Ellie Pizzulli was unstoppable, posting an 8-goal, 3-assist stat line, along with 3 ground balls, 6 draw controls, and 4 forced turnovers. She was supported by Sophie Soron, who netted five goals, scooped 2 ground balls, and dominated the draw with 8 draw controls and 3 forced turnovers. Lexi Lopez, Emma Scrudato, and Mollie Little each chipped in two goals, while Kennedy Dexter added one to round out the scoring. In goal, the tandem of Regan McCoy and Victoria Formica faced 17 shots, saving four between them.
Tennis Drops to Pingry Despite Pereyra’s Victory
On the tennis courts, the Boys Varsity Tennis team fell to a strong Pingry squad 4-1 on Friday. The lone bright spot for the Cougars came from first singles, where Juan Miguel Pereyra took down Ryan Hao with a composed 6-3, 6-4 win.
Boys Lacrosse Falls to Princeton in Tough Battle
The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team continued their challenging schedule with a tough loss to Princeton (5-4), falling to 2-6 on the season. Despite the outcome, the Cougars had strong individual efforts, with Finn Jaworovich and Zach Mutton each finding the back of the net twice, and Matthew Cudmore adding another. In goal, Xaner Mancilla turned in a solid performance with 13 saves on 26 shots faced.
