MONTGOMERY, NJ — Montgomery girls soccer opened the state tournament in emphatic fashion Tuesday, rolling past New Brunswick, 6-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 4 Tournament.
The Cougars wasted little time taking control, scoring four goals in the opening half before adding two more after the break to complete the shutout victory. With the win, Montgomery improved to 9-8 on the season and advanced to the next round of the sectional tournament. Emma Seamon led the way recording a hat trick and finishing with six points. Montgomery’s attack was balanced behind her. Quinn Donahue scored one goal and added three assists, giving her five points on the day. Amelia Montas and Alex Kasimatis each added a goal, while Nicole Schwarcz, Alexis Dunn and Sophia Anderson each contributed an assist. Montgomery’s offensive pressure put New Brunswick on its heels early, and the Cougars carried a 4-0 advantage into halftime before continuing to control the match in the second half.
At the other end of the field, the Cougar defense held New Brunswick scoreless. Goalkeepers Ellie Andes and Nuvika Shah combined for the shutout, totaling six saves. Andes recorded four saves, while Shah added two. The victory continued Montgomery’s late-season momentum and gave the Cougars exactly the kind of start they were looking for in postseason play, a decisive win, contributions throughout the lineup and a clean sheet on the defensive end.
