Montgomery Township — The Montgomery High School boys varsity golf team continued its strong early-season form, earning back-to-back victories with wins over Gill St. Bernard’s and Southern, showcasing both depth and consistency across its lineup.
In the first match, the Cougars defeated Gill St. Bernard’s 144-158 in a nine-hole contest. Connor Benedict and Tyler Sugarman led the way, each firing a match-low 35 to share medalist honors. Montgomery’s depth proved decisive, with Aidan Sim, Jacob Chang, and Arav Rathore each contributing solid rounds of 37, highlighting the team’s balanced scoring approach.
Montgomery followed that performance with a narrow 167-170 victory over Southern, improving to 4-2 on the season. In a tightly contested match played in stroke format on a par-35 course, the Cougars again relied on consistency throughout the lineup.
Southern’s Jackson Bodony earned medalist honors with a round of 38, but Montgomery countered with steady scoring across multiple players. Sugarman led the Cougars with a team-low 40, finishing second overall, while Rathore and Benedict each posted rounds of 42. Jacob Chang added a 43, with Aidan Sim (44) and Dylan Ko (46) rounding out the scoring.
Despite strong individual performances from Southern, including a 42 from Paul Reilly and a 43 from Gavin Swain, Montgomery’s depth across its top five golfers proved to be the difference in the three-stroke win.
Across both matches, the Cougars demonstrated a consistent formula for success—balanced scoring, strong medalist performances, and reliable contributions throughout the lineup—as they continue to build momentum early in the season.
