Montgomery Township Schools to Open on Two-Hour Delay Tuesday Due to Overnight Freeze

Nicholas Mistretta

The Montgomery Township School District will operate on a two-hour delayed opening schedule on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Superintendent Mary E. McLoughlin announced Monday.

In a message to district families and staff, McLoughlin said the delay will provide facilities crews with additional time to treat parking lots and walkways with salt in anticipation of an overnight freeze. The precaution follows Monday’s school closure and is intended to ensure safe arrival conditions for students and employees.

“All Montgomery Township schools will operate on a two-hour delayed opening schedule,” McLoughlin wrote, noting that maintenance teams will address potential ice accumulation before the start of the school day.

The delay applies to all district schools, including Orchard Hill Elementary School, Village Elementary School, Lower Middle School, Upper Middle School, and Montgomery High School.

Under the adjusted schedule, Orchard Hill Elementary School and Village Elementary School will observe a Day 4 rotation. Students at Lower Middle School, Upper Middle School, and Montgomery High School will follow a B-Day schedule.

District officials also confirmed that Tuesday’s delay comes after the use of the second of two emergency closing contingency days built into the 2025–26 academic calendar. As a result, two previously scheduled days off will now become regular school days:

  • Friday, May 22, 2026, replacing the closure on Monday, February 23, 2026
  • Tuesday, May 26, 2026, replacing the closure on Monday, January 26, 2026

Updated versions of the 2025–26 district calendar, A/B Day schedule for secondary schools, and the six-day rotation schedule for elementary schools are available on the district’s website.

District officials urged families to review the revised schedules and plan accordingly.
