MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP — An early-morning house fire on Opossum Road prompted a multi-agency emergency response and the rescue of an elderly resident, according to Montgomery Township Police.

At approximately 4:13 a.m. on November 7, Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Companies No. 1 and No. 2, and Montgomery EMS were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a private residence. Responding officers were advised that an elderly resident with mobility issues remained inside.

Police said that upon arrival, the residence was engulfed in flames. Officer Hunter located several residents at the rear of the home, where they directed her to the elderly individual near a rear doorway. Sergeant Ward and Officer Martinez then arrived on scene, and the three officers together moved the resident to a safe location.

Two residents were transported to local hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation. Other occupants were evaluated and treated at the scene.

Fire companies from surrounding jurisdictions assisted Montgomery units in extinguishing the blaze. The Montgomery Township Fire Marshal responded and is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. No further details were immediately released.
