The Montgomery Township Board of Health approved a series of measures during its Sept. 10 meeting, addressing public health priorities ranging from flavored vape sales to age-friendly initiatives.
The board passed Resolution No. 2025-10, requesting that the Township Committee adopt local ordinances regulating the sale of flavored vapes, cannabis, and intoxicating hemp products. Health Officer Devangi Patel reported that the police department has received complaints related to underage sales. She noted that while oversight currently involves multiple state agencies—including the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, the Office of Tobacco Control, and the Food Protection Program—this ordinance would help streamline regulation by creating a unified set of local guidelines.
In addition, the board voted unanimously to adopt Resolution No. 2025-11, supporting Montgomery Township’s application to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. Montgomery has already been recognized as an age-friendly community and is the recipient of a state Department of Human Services grant aimed at advancing initiatives for older residents. Joining the AARP network fulfills one of the requirements of the grant.
The board also approved Resolution No. 2025-12, reinforcing the township’s commitment to evidence-based public health practices and promoting vaccination as a cornerstone of community health.
Finally, the board adopted Resolution No. 2025-13, setting the 2025 salary for the township’s health officer at $130,000, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
The next meeting of the Montgomery Township Board of Health is scheduled for October.
