Radley and Formica Shine as Montgomery Girls Soccer Stays Hot

September 9th— The Montgomery Cougars girls varsity soccer team held their ground on home turf Tuesday, edging out North Hunterdon 1–0 in a hard-fought defensive battle to improve their record to 3–1 on the season.

Emma Radley provided the difference-maker in the first half, capitalizing on a setup from Emma Seamon to put the Cougars on the scoreboard. Despite several chances to extend the lead, Montgomery’s single goal stood as the decisive tally.

North Hunterdon pushed hard, generating a flurry of chances, but Montgomery goalkeeper Victoria Formica stood tall under pressure. Formica recorded 11 saves on the day, preserving the shutout with key stops in both halves.

The Lions’ attack never found its finishing touch, as Montgomery’s backline tightened and denied second-chance opportunities.

With the win, the Cougars continue to build momentum early in the season, showing their ability to win not just with offensive firepower, but with discipline and resilience on defense.

McFadden’s Hat Trick Powers Montgomery Past Somerville, 22–15

SOMERVILLE — The Montgomery Cougars overcame an early deficit and leaned on the electric connection between quarterback Jack Kristjanson and wide receiver Trey McFadden to earn a gritty 22–15 road victory over Somerville on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Somerville struck first when Dylan Boehm found Dushawn Dorsey on a 35-yard touchdown pass. The extra point failed, but the Pioneers held a 6–0 lead midway through the second. Montgomery’s response was immediate. Kristjanson hit McFadden on a 24-yard strike, and the same duo connected again for the two-point conversion to give the Cougars an 8–6 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, Kristjanson and McFadden picked up right where they left off. A 9-yard touchdown pass extended Montgomery’s lead to 14–6. Somerville answered with a 38-yard scoring run from James Hampton, trimming the gap to 14–12.

The Pioneers reclaimed the lead early in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard field goal by Austin Rynearson, but Montgomery had the final word. Kristjanson once again found McFadden — this time on a 14-yard touchdown connection. Kristjanson punched in the two-point conversion himself, sealing a 22–15 victory.

McFadden finished the night with 9 catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Kristjanson delivered a solid performance, completing 14 of 27 passes for 172 yards and three scores, while also rushing for 107 yards on 22 carries. Running back Caiden Miller provided balance with 101 yards on 17 attempts.

Defensively, the Cougars played tough in critical moments. Dragomir Georgiev and Zach Furey led the way with six tackles apiece, while Xavier Harrigan added an interception that kept Somerville from building momentum.

The win lifts Montgomery to 2–1, while Somerville falls to the same mark.
