Montgomery volleyball sweeps Hopewell Valley while boys soccer edges College Achieve in a hard-fought win.
Montgomery Boys Soccer Earns 3–2 Win Over College Achieve Central
The Montgomery Cougars boys varsity soccer team secured their second victory of the season Wednesday afternoon with a hard-fought 3–2 home win over College Achieve Central.
Montgomery struck first in the opening half when Lachlan Daly found the back of the net, giving the Cougars early momentum. College Achieve’s goalkeeper Jeremy Martinez kept his side in the game with several key saves, but the Cougars’ relentless pressure showed in their 13 shots on goal.
In the second half, Montgomery extended its lead behind goals from Alex Frank and Nate Doelling, both capitalizing on well-placed setups from Daly and Sid Goyal. Daly finished the match with a goal and an assist, showcasing his two-way playmaking ability.
College Achieve Central battled back with a pair of second-half goals, including one from Anderson Arequipa, to narrow the margin late. However, Montgomery’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Alex Acot with two saves, held firm to secure the 3–2 result.
The victory improves Montgomery’s record to 2–1 on the season, while College Achieve drops to 0–2.
Montgomery Volleyball Sweeps Hopewell Valley for First Win of Season
The Montgomery Cougars girls varsity volleyball team earned its first victory of the season Thursday night, defeating Hopewell Valley in straight sets, 25–19, 26–24, on their home court.
Montgomery’s balanced attack and strong serving proved to be the difference. Polar Zacherau led the offense with six kills, while Anna Braem and Anshika Verma chipped in three apiece. Ritisha Mungi anchored the passing game with a team-high 12 assists and added eight service points and an ace.
From the back row, Maya Flores recorded 11 digs, keeping Hopewell Valley’s hitters in check, while Pooja Venkat delivered at the service line with four aces and nine service points. Isabella Barber contributed both offensively and from the line, tallying a kill, two digs, and two aces.
Hopewell Valley pushed the Cougars in the second set, keeping the score tight to 24–24, but Montgomery held its composure, closing out the frame and sealing the match.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 1–1 on the young season, showing early signs of depth and resilience.
