Montgomery — At its September 2 meeting, the Montgomery Veterans Memorial (MVM) Committee voted to move its annual Veterans Day celebration to the Sunday closest to Veterans Day, beginning this year. The adjustment, committee Chair Dimitra Bairaktaris explained, will help ensure broader community participation and provide a more fitting tribute to the men and women who have served our nation.

This year’s observance will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Montgomery Veterans Memorial in Montgomery Veterans Park. The day’s events will begin with a procession at 1:45 p.m., stepping off from Devon and Harlingen Road and proceeding into the park. The formal ceremony will commence at 2:00 p.m.

The program includes:

  • Presentation of Colors by local Scouts, led by Simon Clark
  • National Anthem (TBD)
  • Invocation (speaker TBD)
  • Opening Remarks from Mayor Neena Singh
  • Recognition of Veterans Present, during which veterans will be invited to introduce themselves and share their service details
  • Guest Speaker (TBD)
  • Reading of Letters by LMS students under the guidance of Lisa Romano (pending)
  • Reflections by Mike Maloney, MVM
  • Patriotic Musical Selection (TBD)
  • Closing Remarks from Dimitra Bairaktaris, MVM
  • Benediction (TBD)
  • Moment of Silence
  • Taps

Committee members emphasized that moving the celebration to Sunday not only makes the event more accessible for families, veterans, and community members, but also allows Montgomery to honor its heroes with the dignity and presence they deserve.

The Montgomery Veterans Memorial Committee invites all residents to attend, reflect, and show their gratitude to the veterans who have safeguarded our freedoms.
