Montgomery Residents Encouraged to Recycle Responsibly at Somerset County’s August 2nd Drop-Off Event

Nicholas Mistretta

Montgomery Township — Somerset County is encouraging residents — including those in Montgomery — to take full advantage of its “First Saturday of the Month Drop-Off” recycling event on Saturday, August 2, 2025, a free and convenient opportunity to responsibly dispose of household recyclables, electronics, and more.

This important monthly program is available to all Somerset County residents and will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at South County Public Works Garage: 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844

No pre-registration is required, but proof of Somerset County residency must be shown (such as a driver’s license, utility bill, or lease). The service is for residents only — no commercial vehicles or businesses will be permitted.

What to Bring on Saturday, August 2:
Residents can drop off a variety of accepted materials, including:

  • Up to eight tires (with or without rims)
  • Scrap metal
  • Used motor oil, oil filters, and antifreeze
  • Curbside recyclables, including plastics labeled #1 through #7
  • Chipboard and boxboard such as cereal, pasta, cookie, and cracker boxes (liners removed), poster board, dried-out steel paint cans, and similar items

Electronic waste recycling will also be available, allowing residents to dispose of old TVs, computers, and other electronics safely and at no cost.

What Not to Bring:

Textiles are not accepted at the drop-off. Residents should continue to use donation bins or charitable organizations for clothing and fabrics.

Support Local Food Banks
In addition to recycling, residents can support the community by donating non-perishable food items at the drop-off locations. All donations go to local food banks helping Somerset County families in need.

Montgomery residents are encouraged to participate in this environmentally friendly and community-minded event. By recycling properly and giving back, we keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and strong — One Saturday at a time.
