Montgomery Township, NJ — June 3, 2025 — The Cougars’ playoff run came to an end Tuesday night, as they fell to Rival Hillsborough 10–0 in the Central Jersey Group 4 semifinals. The Raiders scored early, showcasing dominant hitting and pitching to advance to the sectional finals—their first semifinal appearance since 2012
The Raiders wasted no time, plating five runs in the first inning and added another run in the third. A four-run burst in the fifth, effectively sealing the win in just five innings. The Raiders finished with 10 runs, eight hits, and only one error—an impressive offensive showing.
Cougars’ Effort Fell Short
Montgomery was unable to counter Hillsborough’s fast start. The Raiders’ pitching held Montgomery to just three hits, with Mason Neufeld notable for going 2-for-3.
On the mound, John Donahue (relief appearance) and Neufeld combined for 4.1 innings, yielding 10 runs, all earned.
Despite being held scoreless, the Cougars’ season reflected growth—advancing to the third round of the NJSIAA playoffs and competing in a high-intensity sectional matchup.
Looking Ahead
While this loss brings down a strong season, the Montgomery Cougars can hold their heads high. Their playoff journey demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination. Their 8–14 overall record doesn’t fully capture the promise shown this spring.

After the game Coach Mueller commented “It was a disappointing conclusion to our season but it doesn’t diminish the comeback we had after a 3-11 start. Proud of their hunger and desire to improve daily. Proud of them and the sacrifices they made for each other. It was a special group!
The kids were obviously disappointed but they have nothing to be ashamed about. They wanted the season to continue and they loved being together. We wish the seniors the best as they move on to bigger and better things. And the work for the returning players for next season begins now”.
