Princeton, NJ – The streets of downtown Princeton will be buzzing with music and community spirit on April 26th for the annual Porchfest, formerly known as Communiversity. But for one Montgomery-based band, the day will mark more than just another gig—it will be a milestone moment, 33 years in the making.
Local classic rock band The Shaxe will be performing their 25th show at the event, earning them the honor of closing out the festival as the final act in Palmer Square from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

The band, founded in 1992, was originally composed of Doug Drake (guitar), Dan Coffey (bass), Mike Liskowitz (guitar), and Brian Impellizeri (drums). Over the decades, The Shaxe carved out a niche in the local music scene with their high-energy performances and classic rock repertoire that pays homage to the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll.
In 2015, the group welcomed Brian Quinn, adding a new layer of musical chemistry that has only strengthened the band’s appeal. Despite the passing of original guitarist Mike Liskowitz in 2021, The Shaxe have continued to carry the torch with the same passion and dedication that began in a Montgomery garage more than three decades ago.

“We’ve played in rain, sun, and everything in between, but the spirit of Porchfest always brings out the best in us,” said bassist Dan Coffey. “This one’s extra special—it’s not just a show, it’s a celebration of the journey.”
Porchfest, hosted by the Princeton Arts Council, invites bands to perform on porches, patios, and plazas throughout town. This year, the festival has chosen to spotlight The Shaxe’s longevity and commitment by giving them the prestigious final time slot on Palmer Square.
“It’s a full circle moment,” said drummer Brian Impellizeri. “From jamming in our basements to being the final act at Porchfest—it’s surreal.”

Guitarist Doug Drake added, “This band has been through a lot—family, careers, even loss—but the music has always kept us together. Mike would’ve loved this moment.”
For fans of classic rock and Montgomery pride, The Shaxe’s 25th Porchfest performance promises not just nostalgia, but a heartfelt tribute to the power of music, friendship, and staying true to your roots.
