PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. — The Montgomery Cougars girls’ varsity lacrosse team continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 15-4 win over Phillipsburg on Monday. The Cougars, now 2-0 on the season, showcased an explosive offense and a relentless defense to hand the Stateliners (0-1) their first loss.
Senior attacker Elliana Pizzulli was the star of the game, delivering a dominant performance with six goals, three assists, and a game-high nine total points. She also contributed defensively, collecting six ground balls and winning nine draw controls to help Montgomery maintain possession throughout the game.
Supporting Pizzulli’s standout effort, Emma Scrudato netted a hat trick, while Lexi Lopez and Sophie Soron added two goals each. Lopez also tallied an assist and two ground balls, while Soron controlled six draws to keep Montgomery in control.
In the cage, goalie Reagan McCoy was solid for the Cougars, making five saves while allowing just three goals. She also contributed to the team’s transition game with one ground ball.
Montgomery set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead and never looking back. Their aggressive play and teamwork overwhelmed Phillipsburg, who struggled to contain the Cougars’ high-powered offense.
