It was a challenging day for MHS Cougar sports, as both basketball teams and the girls’ fencing squad suffered setbacks in their respective matchups on Thursday.
The MHS boys’ basketball team fell to Rutgers Prep, bringing their season record to 13-4. Despite a strong offensive showing, the Cougars couldn’t secure the win against a solid effort by the Rutgers Prep squad (13-7). Ethan Lin and Bohdan Biekietov each contributed 13 points, while Christian Hill added 12, and Kyryl Streltsov chipped in with 10. The Cougars showcased their long-range shooting, sinking 27 of their 59 total points from beyond the arc.
The MHS girls’ basketball team also faced a tough defeat, losing 42-35 to Bound Brook. Hayley Dunn led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points, 12 of which came from three-pointers. Alia Johnson provided solid support, contributing 11 points in the effort.
On the fencing strip, the MHS girls’ team struggled against Bernards, falling 20-7 in their home match. Soha Chokshi earned two wins in Saber, while Pritha Satish secured two victories in Foil. Aarushi Kharb and Shreya Goda each notched a win in Epee.
