Montgomery High School Cougar Sports Recap: A Winning Week for Boys Basketball and Swimming

Boys Basketball

The Montgomery Cougars boys’ basketball team continued their dominant run in the Somerset County Tournament, securing a 67-58 quarterfinal victory over Pingry. Senior standout Christian Hill led the charge with an impressive 27-point performance, including five three-pointers. Ethan Lin contributed 19 points, while sophomore Mike Simborski added 10. Senior Bohdan Biekietov chipped in with seven points, rounding out a strong offensive effort.

Girls Basketball

The Girl Cougars faced a tough test against neighboring Princeton, ultimately falling in a close 49-39 contest. Aliz Schulberg was the highlight for Montgomery, scoring all 15 of her points from beyond the arc. Alia Johnson and Shritha Velaga each added eight points.

Boys Swimming Extends Record to 8-1

The Montgomery boys’ swim team continued its strong season, improving to 8-1 with a 91-79 victory over South Brunswick on Thursday. Key performances included:

  • 200 Medley Relay: Montgomery’s team of Kobe Solivan, Vihaan Chatterjee, Ryan Kang, and Eric Qian took first with a time of 1:42.26.
  • 200 Free: Elves Huang placed second with a time of 1:58.03, followed closely by Nicholas Paradizov at 1:58.20.
  • 200 IM: Vihaan Chatterjee dominated with a winning time of 2:08.59.
  • 50 Free: Eric Qian finished in second with a time of 0:23.62.
  • 100 Fly: Ryan Kang led the race, clocking in at 0:53.21.
  • 100 Back: Kang continued his strong showing, winning with a time of 0:56.85.
  • 100 Breast: Chatterjee secured another first-place finish with a time of 1:03.65.
  • 400 Free Relay: Montgomery’s top squad of Qian, Paradizov, Kang, and Chatterjee sealed the win with a time of 3:31.42.
