
Cougar Sports Weekly Recap: Swim and Fencing Shine in Tournament Play

This week’s Cougar sports saw intense action in the pool and on the fencing strip, with Montgomery High School athletes delivering standout performances in both boys’ and girls’ competitions.
Girls Swim Dominates Rancocas Valley in Semifinals
Montgomery’s girls’ swim team made a strong statement in the NJSIAA Central Group A Semifinals, with a decisive 101-69 victory over Rancocas Valley.
Key Performances:
- 200 Medley Relay: Priya Schult, Averie Wu, Zoe Bitterman, and Angela Liu set the pace with a winning time of 1:59.33.
- 200 Freestyle: Zoe Bitterman took first place with a time of 2:07.86, followed by Rashi Gandhi (2:16.86).
- 200 IM: Nina Tadych clocked in at 2:31.24 to secure another Cougar win.
- 50 Free: Angela Liu sprinted to victory in 26.06 seconds, narrowly edging out teammate Juliet Boulos (26.29).
- 100 Fly: Bitterman continued her dominance with a winning time of 1:01.71.
- 100 Free: Schult secured first place in 56.21 seconds, with Boulos close behind (57.85).
- 500 Free: Tadych added another first-place finish in 5:59.06.
- 200 Free Relay: Boulos, Bitterman, Liu, and Schult combined for a winning time of 1:43.81.
- 100 Breast: Wu powered through with a 1:15.31 finish.
- 100 Back: Schult took the top spot again with 1:09.48.
- 400 Free Relay: Tadych, Yi, Boulos, and Liu wrapped up the meet with a strong 4:14.38 finish.
Boys Swim Falls in Semifinals to Hillsborough
The Montgomery boys’ swim team fell to rival Hillsborough, 111-59 in the Central Group A Semifinals despite several individual highlights.
Notable Races:
- 200 Medley Relay: Kobe Solivan, Vihaan Chatterjee, Ryan Kang, and Eric Qian led the charge with a time of 1:39.26.
- 100 Fly: Kang impressed with a 53.79 finish.
- 100 Free: Qian finished in 50.75 seconds, earning Montgomery a key win.
- 100 Breast: Chatterjee clocked in at 1:02.34 to claim victory.
- 400 Free Relay: Kondala, Paradizov, Kang, and Chatterjee finished strong in 3:47.09.
Boys Fencing Remains Undefeated
Montgomery’s boys’ fencing team extended their unbeaten streak to 11-0 with a commanding 17-10 victory over Pingry.
- Saber: Joseph Li led the way with a perfect 3-0 record.
- Foil: Mason Martin went undefeated (3-0), securing crucial points.
- Epee: Jason Shin delivered a flawless 3-0 performance, keeping Montgomery ahead.
Girls Fencing Edges Pingry in Thriller
The Montgomery girls’ fencing team pulled off a nail-biting 14-13 victory over Pingry, improving their record to 4-6.
- Saber: Soha Chokshi shined with a 3-0 record.
- Foil: Prithika Satish led with a perfect 3-0 outing.
- Epee: Jui Salunke and Aarushi Kharb each contributed with a 1-1 record to seal the win.
With the girls’ swim team advancing and both fencing teams performing at a high level, Cougar sports continue to advance through the conference.
