State Forest Service Conducts Controlled Burn in Skillman Park

By Nicholas Mistretta

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is overseeing a prescribed burning operation, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. A controlled burn, also known as a prescribed burn, is the intentional application of fire to vegetation under specific conditions to achieve land management objectives. These objectives may include reducing hazardous fuels, restoring fire-dependent ecosystems, and promoting biodiversity. Residents are advised that this is a controlled, carefully monitored burn. Resultant smoke in the air is not a cause for concern and does not pose a health risk.
